Man-Made Beherit

The man-made beherit, known also as the demon womb or the reincarnation vessel, is an artifact that consumed Daiba's entire life to complete, and he keeps its existence hidden from the Kushan nobility. It is built from apostles who remain alive, stitched and shackled around a vat of amniotic fluid, with a row of harashada holding a ritual hand sign before it.

Because an apostle's insides open onto the Astral World, the device channels the corrupting force of the abyss into whatever it holds. In its ordinary use a pregnant woman is lowered into the fluid so her child is remade into a daka, a being steeped in an apostle's evil. Daiba compares the machine to a genuine beherit when it performs a far darker act, pulling the mist of a living apostle back into itself and devouring the lives of everyone the fog has touched.

Preparing to face Griffith at Wyndham, Emperor Ganishka climbs into the vessel to rise beyond mere apostlehood. Sinking into the abyss, he emerges gorged on evil power as a colossal thing that bursts up from beneath the city streets to meet Griffith. Witnessing the change, the Bakiraka and Daiba liken the reborn emperor to the god Shiva.
