Salamander Dagger

The salamander dagger is a fire-blessed magical blade carried by Isidro. Because Flora keeps no enchanted weapons sized for a child, Schierke offers this one to the young fighter, who overcomes his early doubts once he feels its power and warms to the little fire spirits living in the steel.

The dagger is a short, broad blade shaped much like a cinquedea, cut from a single piece of ore with no fuller and no true crossguard, its handle wrapped in a thick rain-guard stamped with a small triangle. Tiny salamanders creep across the metal. Quenched in molten lava and guarded by fire spirits, it sets its cuts alight so they scorch as if pressed by hot iron, melting steel and igniting a man-sized enemy on any solid hit. Isidro also uses its flame to spark the small bombs Guts gives him.

The weapon comes to Isidro as part of the arsenal Flora and Schierke provide to Guts' band for the battle against the trolls threatening Enoch Village, handed out alongside the silver surcoats, the silver dagger, Serpico's sylph sword and cloak, and the rejected axe of the gnomes. Since its short reach makes it useless for striking a taller swordsman, Isidro treats it as an off-hand tool and drills himself to pair it with his cutlass.
