Berenice cuts a slim, youthful figure. His hair, kept short and mostly pink, grows longer and turns purple down the right side of his fringe. Painted nails, each crossed by a dark diagonal streak, complete the picture, along with the Sternritter's white hooded cloak and trench coat and a bolo tie fastened at his neck.

By Kenpachi Zaraki's account, Berenice simply never stops talking. That same running mouth breeds a careless overconfidence in his own ability, and it is precisely this arrogance that leads to his swift death.

Berenice's spiritual power ranks with that of a captain-class Shinigami, and like any Quincy he pulls Reishi from the air to shape weapons, a far easier task in dense-Reishi realms such as Soul Society or Hueco Mundo. His Schrift, The Question, wounds a target by raising an objection to their very existence and conduct: once he voices it, the opponent is penalized unless they can answer and overcome the challenge. The power fails, however, if Berenice cannot fully speak, or if his target is unable to fully hear him. His overreliance on it proves fatal when Kenpachi rips out his throat during the invasion's opening stage and later dumps the corpse before Yhwach.
