Dragonclad

Character

Dragonclad is the status Wing Bind assigns to a Human who, through long contact with a Dragon, absorbs enough Dragotoxin to be reclassified as one of the creatures. Balgo Parks became the first known case in BURN THE WITCH after years living beside the Dragon Shelby.

Appearance

Outwardly a Dragonclad shows no obvious change; Balgo Parks, the sole known example, still looks entirely Human. What shifts is his perception, since he can now see the Dragons that stay invisible to ordinary people, and Wing Bind counts him as a member of their species rather than of humankind.

Personality

The condition is as much a hazard as a change in station. Because a Dragonclad is forged by prolonged closeness to Dragons, its very existence tends to draw powerful and dangerous ones toward it. Should the Top of Horns judge such a person a grave danger to Reverse London, they can be branded a Punitive Dragon and marked for elimination by Wing Bind.

History

The label traces back to the Dragon Contact Prohibition of 1609 and the Dragotoxin that builds in anyone who touches a Dragon without the proper standing. Balgo reached that threshold after a decade sharing a home with Shelby and being bitten while the Dragon held its true shape. Reclassified by Wing Bind, he fell under their protection and won the legal right to touch other Dragons, such as Osushi, even though he never formally joined the order.
