Enrakyōten

Enrakyōten, a name that evokes a bewitching mirror, is the heirloom blade of the Tsunayashiro Clan, one of the Four Great Noble houses of Soul Society, and it ranks among the most ancient Zanpakutō in existence. Its strength is matched by a heavy price: every moment it is wielded permanently drains the life left to its user. That curse kept generations of the clan from ever touching it, until Tokinada Tsunayashiro became the first willing to bear it. This account draws on the novel Can't Fear Your Own World.

The sword cannot enter Shikai unless its wielder is wounded first. Delivered through a lengthy release incantation, the activation floods the area with blinding light, mends every bit of damage the blade has taken, and renders the edge invisible to the eye. Its core power is mimicry: Enrakyōten can reproduce the abilities of any Zanpakutō its current bearer has witnessed, several of them at once, with each copied power scaling up or down to match the wielder's own reiatsu. In Tokinada's hands it has echoed a long roster of famous swords, from Ryūjin Jakka and Kyōka Suigetsu to Hyōrinmaru, Senbonzakura, and Suzumebachi.

Preferring to keep its real nature secret, Tokinada usually summons it under a false name and command. Called Kuten-kyōkoku and released with the word 'Revere,' this decoy form deliberately echoes the name of Shunsui Kyōraku's Katen Kyōkotsu as a taunt. In this guise the blade behaves like a mirror, turning any incoming attack back against whoever launched it.

Enrakyōten belongs to the Tsunayashiro Clan, and Tokinada Tsunayashiro is the only member ever shown to wield it. Tokinada came to lead the house after secretly murdering the entire main branch, having begun life in a distant offshoot of the family.
