Appearance

Saitō presents as a youthful, fair-complexioned woman whose large violet eyes are half concealed, the left one sealed behind a black eyepatch held by a pair of straps that cross in an X over her head. Deep pink hair spills into two pigtails long enough to reach her hips, with a fringe falling across the right side of her face, and a white band wraps her temples above the standard captain's haori and shihakusho.

Personality

Like her fellow early captains, she carried a fearsome name in Yhwach's memory, a cold and vicious slayer. She took visible delight in the killing, cheerfully hacking apart Lichtreich Quincy when the invaders first reached Soul Society.

History

She was installed as the inaugural head of the 6th Division in that founding era, part of the captain class widely regarded as the strongest the Gotei 13 ever assembled. Her spiritual reserves were vast and her swordsmanship equally sharp: during the Lichtreich's first incursion she swept through the enemy with rapid strokes, beheading soldier after soldier until the Quincy army was driven back. When peace followed, she laid down her blade like the others, having found things she wished to protect. Her Zanpakuto, a curved katana fitted with a six-pointed star guard and a pink hilt, never had its released forms revealed, and her post eventually passed down toward Ginrei Kuchiki.
