The Quincy are living humans, keenly attuned to the spirit world, who gather Reishi into weapons and annihilate Hollows outright instead of purifying them. Cast as the mirror opposite of the Shinigami, most were wiped out two centuries ago, though a hidden empire endured under Yhwach.
Where the Shinigami favor loose black robes, the Quincy dress in fitted white garments with tall collars, a cut that recalls both Mandarin coats and priestly cassocks and lends them a distinctly Western air. The cross recurs throughout their wardrobe and gear, though its form shifts from person to person, with Uryū Ishida bearing a Celtic version while Ryūken favors a pentacle. Their heraldry centers on the Quincy Zeichen, a five-pointed cross that surfaces across their techniques and culture, and the Wandenreich stamp a variant of it into their uniforms and equipment.
A Quincy fights by pulling ambient Reishi and shaping it into a weapon, most often a bow whose arrows are limited only by the wielder's stamina. Beyond archery they command the high-speed step Hirenkyaku, the blood-borne reinforcement Blut, and, at their peak, the transformations Letzt Stil and Vollständig, with select members granted a Schrift letter by Yhwach that awakens a unique power. What truly divides them from the Shinigami is intent, for rather than cleansing a Hollow and sending it onward, the Quincy destroy its soul completely, a stance rooted in vengeance for the loved ones Hollows devour. Over time they split themselves by blood, prizing the pure-lineage Echt above the mixed Gemischt. Their gravest weakness is the Hollow itself, whose reiatsu is poison to them, rotting the Quincy soul until it dies.
Once scattered worldwide as a clan sworn to hunt Hollows, the Quincy trace their imperial line to Yhwach, the Soul King's son, hailed as the father of the race. Two centuries after his birth he bound the Quincy under a realm called the Lichtreich and raised the Sternritter to march on Soul Society, only to be sealed by Ichibe'e Hyōsube and crushed by Yamamoto and the first Gotei 13. The survivors slipped into a shadow dimension beside the Seireitei and rebuilt their capital there as the Wandenreich, the invisible empire.
For the remnants left among the living, friction with the Shinigami never eased. As Quincy numbers swelled, the balance of souls grew unstable, and the Shinigami reluctantly exterminated most of them roughly two hundred years ago. A later plan to let Quincy serve as early responders to Hollow strikes collapsed when Sōken Ishida, its final champion, was slain before help could arrive. In rare cases Quincy blood mingles with other powers, as with Ichigo Kurosaki, who inherited his Quincy mother's gifts alongside his Shinigami and Hollow sides. Quincy legend preserves the Kaiser Gesang, a hymn foretelling that their sealed king would recover his heart, his mind, and at last his power across nine hundred years, then reclaim the world nine days on, a prophecy borne out as Yhwach rose again.

Five Bleach female characters, ranked and settled. Yoruichi sits at number five, the spot nobody expects, and our number one is an Arrancar with a soft heart....

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....

Notable Quincy in Bleach include Uryu Ishida, his father Ryuken Ishida, Ichigo Kurosaki's mother Masaki Kurosaki, the hybrid Ichigo Kurosaki himself, and Yhwach, the race's emperor, among many other Quincy who appear across the series.
The Shinigami nearly exterminated the Quincy around two hundred years ago because their swelling numbers, who destroy Hollow souls outright instead of sending them onward, were destabilizing the balance of souls between worlds.
