Its paired names point toward both a resurrection and a returning blade, and figures such as Kisuke Urahara and Mayuri Kurotsuchi regard it as the Arrancar equal of the Bankai, since each marks a leap in power that cannot be mended once broken in full release.
Mechanics
Every Arrancar stores the core of their strength within a sword, a design wholly unlike the weapons Soul Reapers carry; breaking that seal, which does not even require fully unsheathing the blade, floods out both their genuine power and their genuine form while mending whatever wounds they carried. They may only shrink back to their humanoid shape by sealing that power away again, and casting off any piece of the released body strands them in it forever. Should the user grow too battered to hold the form, or slip into unconsciousness, it simply melts away as the sword takes shape once more, and a shattered Zanpakutō locks the ability out entirely.
