Saizō Sakahone

Age had left Sakahone gaunt and bald, his tanned skin creased with deep wrinkles and his spine bent into a permanent stoop. A pronounced nose jutted from his face, and his eyes, sunk far into their sockets, stared out from pools of black sclera. He dressed in the customary black shihakushō beneath a captain's white haori.

Yhwach remembered him as a byword for savagery, a cold-hearted slayer who felt nothing in the act, a reputation borne out by how thoroughly he butchered the invading Quincy. Yet the man was not solely a weapon. Once the fighting quieted, he laid down roots in the peace that followed, having found people and things he wished to protect.

Chosen as the inaugural captain of the Thirteenth Division in Soul Society's distant past, Sakahone ranked among the first generation of Gotei 13 officers, a group reputed to be the mightiest the organization ever fielded. When the Lichtreich's Quincy army stormed Soul Society, he waded in and finished off their fallen soldiers, his enormous spiritual power letting him overwhelm and slay one enemy after another until the invaders were driven back. His sealed Zanpakutō took the shape of a katana with a brown grip, a rounded-rectangular golden guard marked by a tiny circle at each corner, and a brown sheath; neither its Shikai nor its Bankai was ever revealed. In the calm that followed the war, he finally settled down.
