Overview

Sankt Altar is a plundering technique available only to Yhwach, the Quincy emperor. Its written name pairs a German reading of Saint Altar with a Japanese meaning closer to Usurpation Altar, and both halves point to its single purpose: seizing another being's power outright. Yhwach first turned it on Ichibei Hyosube, tearing that captain's abilities away and folding them into himself.

Mechanics

To perform it, Yhwach conjures five spheres of Reishi over his fingertips and casts them into the space encircling his opponent. Each sphere then looses a beam, and together they trace an enormous Quincy Zeichen around the victim held at its heart. As the emblem burns, whatever powers and abilities the trapped foe possesses are wrenched loose and rerouted straight into Yhwach, leaving him stronger for the theft.

Notable Users

Yhwach is the technique's only known practitioner. According to a Klub Outside note from Tite Kubo, the Medallion devices carried by the Sternritter, which let them steal an enemy's Bankai, are themselves an application of the same Sankt Altar principle.
