Sonído

Rendered from Spanish as Sound and from Japanese as Reverberating Turn, Sonido is the signature high-speed technique of the Hollow races. It occupies the same tier as Shunpo and Hirenkyaku, the three moving at roughly equal velocity.

What sets it apart is how naturally it comes to its users. Where the Shinigami method demands study, Sonido seems to require no prior training at all, arising from instinct.

The art announces itself with a heavy booming or static crack, written out as bun, rather than the soft swish or silence of a Shinigami's step. Skill with it varies from one wielder to the next, so speed depends entirely on the individual.

Among the Espada, Zommari Rureaux claimed the swiftest Sonido, while Coyote Starrk covered such enormous stretches so quickly that his movement resembled teleportation. Ulquiorra Cifer noted a further edge, stating that Sonido can slip past Pesquisa detection where Shunpo cannot. Supplementary novels explain this, describing how the technique releases no Reiatsu during use, which keeps its user hidden and suits hit-and-run tactics.

Nearly every Arrancar relies on Sonido, and it also appears in the hands of Kaname Tosen and the Hollow entity White, also known as Zangetsu. Standout practitioners include Zommari Rureaux and Coyote Starrk. According to Tite Kubo's own commentary, the movement works by turning a user's inner Reishi into a substance that is no longer Reishi at all, which is what lets it slip past an opponent's senses.
