Sousuke Aizen

A tall, lean figure of fair complexion, Aizen keeps his hair and eyes in a close, matching shade of brown. In his years as a trusted captain he swept that hair into a soft, shaggy curtain and framed his slightly droopy eyes with square black glasses, an image that read as scholarly and harmless. His attire was the standard Shinigami robes beneath a captain's haori lined in the pale turquoise of the Fifth Division.

The disguise falls away during his rise to Hueco Mundo, where he crushes his glasses and sweeps his hair back, leaving a single strand across his face and revealing colder, sharper eyes. There he adopts an Arrancar-styled white coat with a high collar. After his defeat and imprisonment in Muken, he is bound in a black leather sealing suit, later partially unsealed so that only the covering over his right eye remains, worn like an eyepatch.

The Aizen most of Soul Society knew was warm, courteous, and considerate, a captain who worried over others and earned deep admiration, especially from his lieutenant Momo Hinamori. That gentleness was pure performance. He himself later declares that the kind officer they believed in never truly existed, exposing a power-hungry and sadistic schemer beneath. He treats opponents with open contempt, drawing out idle conversation to unsettle them, and after his unmasking he trades his humble speech for a far more assertive tone.

His conduct is governed by cold pragmatism. He offers up countless Shinigami and Rukongai souls to feed the Hogyoku, engineers the Visored's Hollowfication, and slaughters the Central 46 to secure Rukia's execution, caring nothing for the cost so long as he prevails. Above all he is defined by towering arrogance, a god complex that swells after he fuses with the Hogyoku, and it is precisely this blindness, his refusal to accept he could be outmatched by Ichigo or truly rejected by the Hogyoku, that seals his ruin. Hints suggest his hunger for supremacy masks a lonelier wish simply to be understood.

Aizen's deadliest weapon is his mind. A peerless strategist, scientist, and reader of human nature, he lays out plans spanning decades, steering countless people like pieces on a board while hiding in plain sight, and by his own account only Kisuke Urahara surpasses his intellect. His raw combat skill, spiritual power, and kido mastery are formidable in their own right, extending to high-level spells such as Kurohitsugi.

His zanpakuto, Kyoka Suigetsu, is the linchpin of his deceptions. Its released ability, Complete Hypnosis, seizes control of all five senses, letting him make anyone perceive whatever he wishes. The single condition is that a target witness the blade's release once, after which they fall under its sway forever, unable to resist even when aware of it. Because the sword looks identical sealed and released and he can release it silently, victims rarely notice. His fusion with the Hogyoku later grants him transcendent power and a series of transformations, though his true bankai is never revealed.
