Spiritual Threads

Character

An anime-original binding art wielded by the rogue Zanpakutō spirit Muramasa. He spins unseen strands tipped with grasping hands, using them to pin, restrain, or throttle his prey, though the threads give themselves away in any nearby reflection.

Appearance

The strands Muramasa conjures cannot be caught by the naked eye, each one ending in a small hand he steers like a puppeteer. Their single tell is reflection: a window or a pool of water throws them into view, and should that mirrored image warp, the threads wink out of sight entirely.

Personality

The technique leans on control rather than raw force, letting Muramasa cage a target without ever closing the gap himself. It carries a built-in fragility, though, bound to its master's concentration, so a hard enough distraction unravels the whole web. On one occasion a violent fit of coughing alone was enough to make the strands come apart.

History

Muramasa turned the strands on several foes over the course of his rebellion. He held Haineko back with them, tied up Ichigo Kurosaki more than once, and set them against Zangetsu in a contest of strength. He also put them to use as a garrote, wringing the life out of Yasutora Sado after catching him in their grip.
