Suì-Fēng

Short in stature with sharp gray eyes, Suì-Fēng keeps her black hair cropped except for two lengthy braids wrapped in white cloth, each weighted at the tip by a heavy gold ring. Over her shoulders sits a sleeveless captain's haori cinched with a yellow sash, and beneath it she wears the backless, sleeveless garb of the Onmitsukidō's commander, paired with long black armbands. Rather than the usual sandals, she favors Chinese-style shoes over plain white socks. In her younger days her hair fell softer and longer, a look she returns to after Aizen's fall before eventually cutting the braids away.

Duty comes first for Suì-Fēng, who is rigid, principled, and unwavering in her convictions, prizing obedience to orders above almost anything else. She carries herself with cold reserve and none of her lieutenant's bluster, though she is not above a taunt or a smirk mid-battle, a habit picked up from Yoruichi. She will cut down even her own subordinates should they obstruct her, and largely ignores them on the theory that hardship forges strength.

Her defining trait is an all-consuming attachment to Yoruichi Shihōin, whom she idolizes to the point of hoarding cat-themed keepsakes and daydreaming about their years training together. That fixation sits beside genuine steel: she orders her own arm severed without flinching when a foe's power threatens to spread, and rarely lets emotion show on the battlefield except where her former master is concerned. A lingering resentment of Kisuke Urahara, tied up in Yoruichi's departure, never quite fades.

Born Shāolíng Fēng to a minor noble house bound to the Shihōin clan, she was the youngest of six children and entered the Onmitsukidō's Executive Militia as family tradition dictated, shedding her birth name to inherit an ancestor's code name. All five of her brothers died on missions. Assigned in time to guard Yoruichi Shihōin, she trained obsessively to prove herself and became the older woman's devoted protégée, until Yoruichi abandoned her posts to help the exiled Urahara. Feeling betrayed, Suì-Fēng resolved to eclipse her and seized the titles her mentor had cast aside, uniting the covert corps under her own command.

Their reunion comes during the ryoka invasion of Soul Society, where the two clash in a furious bout of speed and hand combat that ends with Suì-Fēng breaking down in tears and the pair reconciling. Together they are the first to corner Sōsuke Aizen atop Sōkyoku Hill, only for him to slip away to Hueco Mundo.

In the defense of the false Karakura Town she dispatches the Arrancar Ggio Vega with her sword's lethal two-step finisher, then faces the Segunda Espada Baraggan Louisenbairn, whose corrosive breath forces her to have Ōmaeda amputate her rotting arm; she answers with her rarely-seen Bankai, Jakuhō Raikōben, a massive missile whose blast helps cripple the Espada. When the Wandenreich later invade, an enemy steals that Bankai outright, driving her to perfect her Shunkō into a self-sustaining wind technique before she reclaims her stolen power. In combat she ranks among Soul Society's fastest, conjuring speed clones and striking unseen as a master assassin; her blade Suzumebachi brands a foe with the Hōmonka crest, and a second hit to the same mark spells certain death.
