Toshimori Umesada

Broad and heavyset, this Shinigami stands out for a topknot paired with bushy sideburns and a heavy mustache. His brows arch thickly and sit low over the eyes, and a noticeable mole marks the skin just above his left nostril. His temper shows physically, as a vein along the left of his forehead swells whenever his mood turns sour. One quirk sets his uniform apart from his squadmates, since his robes are cut with sleeves that most Ninth Division members go without.

Umesada carries himself as though his rank makes him exceptional, and he wields the title of seated officer mainly to impress others, most notably when he tried to charm the disguised Orihime. He insists he outstrips the fifteen colleagues who share his seat, calling himself the strongest of the bunch. His pride has a short fuse, and something as small as Uryu stepping between him and Orihime was enough to make him seethe and vow revenge.

During the search for the Ryoka inside the Seireitei, Umesada commands a patrol and urges his people to comb every hiding spot. Two of his own squad are actually Orihime Inoue and Uryu Ishida in borrowed uniforms, and he fails to recognize the newcomers. Taken with Orihime, he invites her to his quarters and brags about his standing among the sixteen who hold the Twentieth Seat. Uryu cuts in, noting that wartime exemptions leave no room for a seated officer to waste time flirting, which enrages Umesada. A report from his men interrupts the confrontation, and he storms off swearing that Uryu will regret crossing him.

Far later, during the Wandenreich's assault, he charges enemy reinforcements while boasting that they can be stopped, only to fall in the attempt. As a seated Shinigami he commands greater-than-usual spiritual power, though the name and form of his Shikai were never revealed.
