Episode 223 pairs the flashy lieutenant Marechiyo Ōmaeda with his exacting captain Suì-Fēng against two of Baraggan's Fracción. Ggio Vega unleashes his released form, but the two Soul Reapers grind out a hard-won double victory.
Just as Nirgge Parduoc's trunk is about to flatten him, Ōmaeda escapes with Shunpo, boasting of his conditioning as a squad leader of the Onmitsukidō, and releases his Shikai Gegetsuburi to slam the Fracción in the face. He prematurely gloats over the fallen Nirgge, who revives and wraps him up, only to be knocked cold again when Ggio Vega's attack sends Suì-Fēng crashing into him and snaps off one of Mamut's tusks. Suì-Fēng sharply rebukes her lieutenant for turning his back on a foe and refuses his offer to fight Ggio together, calling him a disgrace.
The two battles interweave as Ōmaeda hesitates to aid his captain for fear of another rejection. When Nirgge revives and hurls him through several buildings, Suì-Fēng is nearly struck while distracted by concern for him. Ōmaeda devises a way to strike both enemies at once, using the momentum of Nirgge's Cero charge to kick him aside, then blocking Ggio's finishing blow against the pinned Suì-Fēng and seizing him so she can counterattack. Suì-Fēng admits she had been holding back only to study an Arrancar's Resurrección ahead of the Espada, then orders Ōmaeda to finish Nirgge.
Ōmaeda lures Nirgge into repeating his crushing trunk attack and destroys him with a flash-step flail strike. Provoked by Suì-Fēng's taunts, Ggio activates his stronger form, Tigre Estoque El Sable, but before the transformation completes she ends him with Nigeki Kessatsu, piercing the same point in his lung from front and back. Seeing his entire Fracción wiped out, Baraggan Louisenbairn rises from his throne.
Ōmaeda and Suì-Fēng battle the Fracción Nirgge Parduoc and Ggio Vega. Ōmaeda blocks Ggio's finishing strike to save his captain, then defeats Nirgge with his flail. Suì-Fēng, having only feigned struggling to observe a Resurrección, kills Ggio with Nigeki Kessatsu as he releases Tigre Estoque El Sable. Their victory prompts Baraggan to stand and enter the fight.
This entry adapts Chapter 332 (from page 6) through Chapter 333 (to page 13) within the Fake Karakura Town arc. The Shinigami Zanpakutō Introductions segment has Rukia describe Renji's Zabimaru, its extendable joints, baboon-and-snake form, and its habit of butting heads with its wielder. Shōjo S opens the episode and Kimi wo Mamotte, Kimi wo Aishite closes it.

Five Bleach female characters, ranked and settled. Yoruichi sits at number five, the spot nobody expects, and our number one is an Arrancar with a soft heart....

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
