Summary

At the Shiba residence, Yoruichi assesses a sleeping Ichigo before the group prepares to launch. Ganju Shiba, newly outfitted for battle, reveals that his elder brother Kaien was killed by a Shinigami he trusted, and that he still cannot understand why Kaien died smiling and free of hatred. Sensing Ichigo is unlike the Shinigami he despises, Ganju resolves to accompany the intruders to learn the truth, moving his gang and Kūkaku to tears. The two rivals grip each other's collars and grudgingly accept that they are now working together.

Kūkaku loads the party into the Kakaku Taihō and inscribes the firing circle while Yoruichi drills them on staying together, evening out their spirit energy, and running from any captain they meet. As the sun rises she completes the Kagizaki incantation and the cannon blasts the spirit-energy sphere skyward, with Ganju reading the second half of the chant to steer their course. The projectile slams into the Shakonmaku barrier over the Seireitei and, with the group pouring everything into the Reishukaku, punches through before dissolving into a vortex. Unable to grab hold of one another in time, the five are hurled apart in four directions as the energy detonates, and Kenpachi Zaraki watches from below, grinning as he wonders which of them is strongest.
