The Beautiful Patissier, Yumichika!

Yamamoto orders Mayuri to the Human World to detect Arrancar spiritual signatures and streamline the Gentei Kaijo procedure, but Mayuri passes the errand to his researchers. Only Rin Tsubokura, who mostly lazes about eating sweets, volunteers, drawn by the promise of Western cakes he has never tried. Escorted by the timid Hanatarō, he reaches the Urahara Shop, where Urahara ropes in the reluctant Yumichika to guide them, chosen because Hitsugaya judged he had the most free time.

Their research at the crater left by Ulquiorra and Yammy goes smoothly, but Rin keeps wandering off after cake. During one detour the group encounters Heita Momoyama, a Jibakurei bound to a bakery by an unusually long Chain of Fate. When Yumichika moves to perform Konsō, Heita begs them to hear his story first.

Heita explains he trained hard as a pastry chef before a car killed him in front of the shop, and that his aging mother visits daily to pray. She never once tasted his cakes, so he asks the Shinigami to bake one to his exact recipe. Rin eagerly agrees, and after a long string of ruined attempts, with even Sado and Renji recoiling at the failed samples brought down to their training chamber, the group finally produces a proper, delicious cake.

When they present it, Heita's mother refuses, saying cakes only remind her painfully of her son. The rejection sends Heita into despair, his Chain of Fate crackling with reiatsu that summons a Menos Grande. Yumichika holds it off while Hanatarō, realizing a chest hole is a wound of the heart, slashes Heita's chain with Hisagomaru to absorb the wound and halt his Hollowfication, then releases Akeiro Hisagomaru to strike the Menos alongside Yumichika's Fuji Kujaku, destroying it. Using Rin's device, Heita's mother finally sees her son and tastes his cake, praising it as delicious and promising to never again say it hurts.

An anime-original episode of the Arrancar arc, it blends slice-of-life comedy with a self-contained ghost story centered on Yumichika. The picture-book segment reveals Rin pranked Ikkaku by crushing his replacement molars and leaving a note claiming only morons cannot see them. Notably, the episode gives Hanatarō and Yumichika Shikai release scenes and features Rin's soul-visibility invention.
