Episode 93 of the Bleach anime pits an unarmed Rukia Kuchiki against the reawakened Bount Yoshi in a brutal Rukongai duel, while the Gotei 13 captains finally learn the buried history behind the Bount and their vendetta against Soul Society.
Cornered in a Rukongai street without her Zanpakutō, Rukia Kuchiki must survive Yoshi and her summoned Doll, Nieder, a sword-and-fan pairing that bickers even mid-battle. Rukia scavenges a cracked katana from a wall and trades blows, but Yoshi has grown far stronger and repeatedly overpowers her, absorbing Reishi from the surroundings to heal every wound Rukia manages to land.
The hidden Mod-Soul Ririn tips the fight with her Illusions technique, distracting Yoshi long enough for Rukia to strike with Kidō spells like Sōkatsui and Byakurai. Even so, Yoshi keeps regenerating and eventually seizes a village child as a hostage, forcing Rukia to drop her blade before being slashed and pinned. Rescue arrives when Byakuya Kuchiki unleashes Senbonzakura, shredding Yoshi in midair and catching his falling sister. Elsewhere, Captain-Commander Yamamoto gathers the captains and reveals what old Kuchiki Clan records disclose about the Bount.
Yamamoto recounts how forbidden experiments led by the researcher Ran'Tao, pursued in search of eternal life, accidentally corrupted a portion of souls in the rebirth cycle and produced the mutated Humans known as Bount. Shunsui Kyōraku suspects a superior officer buried the truth to protect himself, but Yamamoto rules the Bount must be destroyed regardless of the reasoning. Learning both Bount waves and Rukia's Reiatsu have been detected, the captains and 13th Division seated officers mobilize.
The rematch between Rukia and Yoshi concludes with Byakuya's intervention, though Yoshi heals herself once more and escapes. As she flees, the ground trembles and explosions rock the Senzaikyū compound, signaling a fresh phase of the invasion.
This is an anime-only installment within the Bount Assault on Soul Society arc, adapting no manga chapters. The closing Shinigami Illustrated Picture Book segment plays a gag in which Ikkaku Madarame's bald head is mistaken for the full moon during a night of drinking. The episode carries a dub error, with Rukia naming Byakurai as Hadō #33 rather than Hadō #4.
