Episode 372, the sixth Thousand-Year Blood War chapter, unleashes Yamamoto's Bankai for the first time in a thousand years. The Captain-Commander tears through a disguised foe with hellfire, only for the true Yhwach to appear, steal the blade, and cut him down.
On a Karakura riverbank, Uryu reads Soken's journal and uncovers an account of a Quincy extermination a thousand years past, complete with a sketch of a younger Yamamoto. In the Seireitei, Yamamoto snatches Kenpachi from the grasp of the figure he believes to be Yhwach and vows to end the emperor's life. When three Sternritter dive at him from above, his Shikai incinerates them, and he pierces his opponent's arm despite its blood-vein defense, warning that the enemy's contempt for his own soldiers ends here.
Yamamoto then activates his Bankai, Zanka no Tachi, a charred blade that seals every flame of Ryujin Jakka within it. Its heat begins evaporating all water across Soul Society, cracking Unohana's flower glass and melting the ice Bankai stolen by Cang Du. Yamamoto cycles through its directional forms: an eastern edge that erases whatever it touches, a western shroud of flame reaching fifteen million degrees, and a southern rite that raises thousands of burning skeletons bearing the faces of Yhwach's slain subordinates. A northern strike finally blasts away much of the foe's torso and left arm.
As the beaten enemy begs forgiveness, the real Yhwach steps in with Hirenkyaku, revealing the fallen figure to be Royd Lloyd, who had impersonated him using the power called The Yourself. Yhwach obliterates Royd with a holy arrow, then discloses that he descended into the Central Great Underground Prison to speak with the bound Aizen, who refused an invitation into the Wandenreich. Assuming Yamamoto exhausted himself against Royd, Yhwach steals Zanka no Tachi with his Medallion, explaining that only he could ever wield so strong a Bankai, and cuts the Captain-Commander open at the shoulder.
Yamamoto reveals his Bankai, Zanka no Tachi, and demonstrates its eastern, western, southern, and northern techniques against his opponent. The enemy is exposed as Royd Lloyd in disguise, and the true Yhwach appears, kills Royd, and recounts his refused recruitment of Aizen. Yhwach seizes Yamamoto's Bankai and gravely wounds him, setting the fall of the Seireitei in motion.
The episode adapts chapters 506 through 510 within the Thousand-Year Blood War arc. The adaptation expanded Uryu's reading of the two Quincy exterminations, added flashbacks paralleling Yamamoto's original war against Yhwach, and restructured his conversation with Aizen into a recollection. A home-media fix later corrected an animation error showing Royd with intact arms after losing one.

Five Bleach female characters, ranked and settled. Yoruichi sits at number five, the spot nobody expects, and our number one is an Arrancar with a soft heart....

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
