The second Bleach OVA, screened on the Jump Festa 2005 Anime Tour, unleashes Baishin, a swordless Shinigami freed from an ancient seal. Set shortly after the Soul Society arc, it pits Ichigo and reinforcements from the Gotei 13 against a foe bent on reclaiming the body his Zanpakutō once was.
In the depths of some ruins, monks complete a sealing rite on a shrine that then bursts apart, killing them all as a mysterious figure steps free. In the Human World, Ichigo hopes to laze through a Sunday until Yuzu reports that a police officer is attacking Isshin, the officer proving to be Sixth Division Lieutenant Renji Abarai. Over a meal at the fast-food spot where Hanatarō Yamada works, Renji reveals that Soul Society dispatched him on an urgent errand, but the escaped being attacks the town first and wounds Ichigo badly. Tenth Division Captain Tōshirō Hitsugaya arrives to hold the enemy off.
At the Urahara Shop, Kisuke identifies the attacker as Baishin, a Shinigami without a Zanpakutō who once ravaged Soul Society before being sealed away. Reinforcements from Soul Society come to help, though Kenpachi Zaraki and Yachiru Kusajishi get lost along the way. The fighters spread across the city to battle Hollows that Baishin summons. Ichigo, Rukia, and Renji reach the ruins, where Baishin drains Ichigo's spirit energy until he collapses. When Baishin moves to kill Rukia, Renji takes the hits and spends his last strength on Higa Zekkō, only for Baishin to rise into a Bankai form.
With Rukia and Renji beaten, Hitsugaya tries his own Bankai and fails to overpower Baishin. Just as Baishin prepares to finish Hitsugaya, Ichigo regains consciousness and proves the stronger opponent. Entering his Bankai, he overwhelms Baishin and cuts him in two, dropping the enemy's Zanpakutō. Ichigo explains that Baishin had merged with his own sword and simply wanted his body back. Sparing a moment of pity, the group wonders about the still-missing Kenpachi and Yachiru, last seen chasing a bullet train.
A sealing ceremony frees Baishin, a Zanpakutō-less Shinigami, from ancient ruins. Renji, Hitsugaya, and other Gotei 13 members join Ichigo in the Human World against him. Renji and Hitsugaya both fall after Baishin reaches a Bankai form. Ichigo bifurcates Baishin with his own Bankai, ending the threat. Kenpachi and Yachiru never reach the fight, lost and pursuing a train.
Released as the franchise's second original video animation, the short debuted on the Bleach Jump Festa 2005 Anime Tour and appears to fall just after the Soul Society arc. A comedic ending sequence shows Gotei 13 members vacationing in the Human World with mixed results, capped by Gin, Tōsen, and Aizen in modern clothes. Tite Kubo drew the DVD cover but noted that Baishin was not his own creation, so the character faces away from the viewer.

Five Bleach female characters, ranked and settled. Yoruichi sits at number five, the spot nobody expects, and our number one is an Arrancar with a soft heart....

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
