Summary

As a new term begins, Mizuiro ends a phone call and tells a companion he has no mother, while at the Kurosaki Clinic Ichigo leaves for school without eating, to Yuzu's annoyance. In Soul Society, Hinamori hands Aizen a report he praises, Hitsugaya discovers a drunken Rangiku sleeping in his office ahead of a lieutenants' meeting, and Hinamori arrives late to take her seat as the others note Rangiku's absence.

Dropped off for his first year at Karakura High, Mizuiro is warned by an animated Keigo that Ichigo and Sado now attend the same school, and the two realize all four share a class. Orihime deflects a surprise strike from Tatsuki, earning praise before Chizuru sets off a scuffle. Ichigo speaks with a troubled Plus about the heavy-looking sky. In Seireitei, Rukia is given charge of protecting Karakura, Renji's promotion to Sixth Division lieutenant is reported, and Ikkaku and Kira nudge him to speak with Rukia, though Renji decides to surprise her with the news on her return.

Back at school, Ichigo and Sado turn up mid-brawl with other students, and when the group is surrounded, Mizuiro coolly introduces himself while Ichigo names himself and Sado and asks after Keigo. Ichigo has Mizuiro cook up an excuse so he is not expelled for saving Keigo. Later, Keigo and Mizuiro cycle home, Mizuiro musing on how everyone in the world is connected.

Notes

This character-focused episode adapts the short prologue chapters numbered around zero rather than any main-arc material and contains no fights or techniques. Its Shinigami Zanpakutō Introductions segment has Kira present Rangiku's blade, Haineko, joking about where its rotten temperament came from.
