Soul Society's noble houses form its hereditary aristocracy, with the Four Great Noble Families at the summit. Their sway touches even the Central 46 and the academy, and no branch of the military may move against a noble house without clear proof of treason.
The precise place of the noble houses within Soul Society's culture and government stays murky, but the Four Great Noble Families plainly carry the most weight. Their influence extends into governing institutions such as the Central 46 Chambers and reaches bodies beyond the state as well, including the Shin'ō Academy. Because of this standing, the Gotei 13, the Kidō Corps, and the Onmitsukidō hold no license to act against a noble house unless its conduct can be proven treasonous.
Only two of the four great families are ever detailed in the manga, the Shihōin and the Kuchiki, with the third and fourth left undisclosed. Below them sit a tier of lesser noble houses, several of which supply prominent officers to the Gotei 13, alongside a handful of clans that command deep respect without formally ranking as nobility.
By long custom the head of the Shihōin family leads the Onmitsukidō, and the clan guards a set of sacred armaments said to be gifts of the gods. The Kuchiki are entrusted with recording and safeguarding the realm's history; their members wear the ornamental kenseikan and pass down a priceless silverwhite scarf, an heirloom given to each successive head. The lesser houses fill supporting roles: the Fēng family traditionally serves the Shihōin by furnishing assassins and executioners to the Onmitsukidō, and any member who fails to qualify for its Executive Militia is cast out.
Other lesser lines include the old and prestigious Kyōraku family, the low-ranking Ukitake and Kira families, and the wealthy Ōmaeda house with its history of Onmitsukidō service. The Shiba clan once stood as a fifth great family before its fall following Kaien Shiba's death, and the Ise clan, Shinto priests, are revered though not strictly noble. Supplementary works add that a fully united five great families would outrank even the Central 46 and the Royal Guard.
The Shihōin line runs through Yoruichi Shihōin, its twenty-second head, and her younger brother Yūshirō Shihōin, the twenty-third. The Kuchiki are represented by Byakuya Kuchiki, the clan's twenty-eighth head, and his adopted sister Rukia Kuchiki, with the late Hisana Kuchiki among its former members.
Heading the Fēng family is Suì-Fēng, who breaks with tradition by serving as both commander of the Onmitsukidō and captain of the 2nd Division. Other houses lend their names to Shunsui Kyōraku, second son of the Kyōraku family, the late Jūshirō Ukitake, once head of his own line, Marechiyo Ōmaeda, and Izuru Kira. Expanded-universe stories introduce the Tsunayashiro as the most powerful of the four great families and note the Azashiro clan's ruin in a past power struggle.

Five Bleach female characters, ranked and settled. Yoruichi sits at number five, the spot nobody expects, and our number one is an Arrancar with a soft heart....

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
In Bleach, Soul Society's aristocracy is topped by the Four Great Noble Families, beneath which sit a tier of lesser noble houses that supply many Gotei 13 officers. Supplementary works note that a fully united five great families would outrank even the Central 46 and the Royal Guard.
The Four Great Noble Families sit at the summit of Soul Society's nobility, though only two, the Shihoin and the Kuchiki, are ever named in the manga. The Shiba clan once stood as a fifth great family before its fall following Kaien Shiba's death.
Only the Shihoin and the Kuchiki are detailed among Bleach's Four Great Noble Families, with the third and fourth left undisclosed. The Shihoin traditionally lead the Onmitsukido, while the Kuchiki are entrusted with recording and safeguarding Soul Society's history.
The Feng family is a lesser noble house that traditionally serves the Shihoin by furnishing assassins and executioners to the Onmitsukido. Any member who fails to qualify for its Executive Militia is cast out, and the clan is currently headed by Sui-Feng.
The Shiba clan once ranked among Soul Society's great noble families as a fifth line, but it fell from that status following the death of Kaien Shiba. The Ise clan, by contrast, is revered as Shinto priests without formally ranking as nobility.
