The Noble Houses form the aristocracy of Soul Society, with four great families wielding influence that reaches into government and beyond. Insulated by law from military interference, these clans, from the mighty Kuchiki and Shihōin down to lesser lines, shape the hidden power structure of the spirit world.
Soul Society's aristocracy is arranged into a web of Noble Houses whose exact place in its culture and government stays only loosely defined. At the summit sit the Four Great Noble Families, whose weight is felt across ruling bodies such as the Central 46 and even across institutions outside the state, including the Shin'ō Academy. Their protection is written into law: the military branches, meaning the Gotei 13, the Kidō Corps, and the Onmitsukidō, may not move against any noble family unless clear proof of treason exists.
Only two of the four supreme houses are known in any detail. The Shihōin Clan, by custom, supplies the leader of the Onmitsukidō and serves as keeper of sacred armaments said to be gifts of the gods, while the Kuchiki Clan is charged with preserving the realm's history and is famed for its Kenseikan hairpieces and priceless heirloom scarf; the third and fourth great families remain wholly unrevealed. Beneath them stand many lesser houses. The Fēng Family traditionally serves the Shihōin by entering the Onmitsukidō as assassins and executioners, casting out any member who fails its entry trial. Others include the old and prestigious Kyōraku Family, the modest Ukitake and Kira lines, and the wealthy Ōmaeda house with its long record of covert-force service. The once-great Shiba Clan, formerly a fifth peer to the Kuchiki and Shihōin, lost its rank after Kaien Shiba's death and now specializes in fireworks.
The Shihōin line is represented by its current head Yoruichi Shihōin and her younger brother Yūshirō, who succeeded her, while the Kuchiki are led by Byakuya alongside his adopted sister Rukia. Suì-Fēng heads the Fēng Family even as she commands the Onmitsukidō and the 2nd Division, and figures such as Shunsui Kyōraku, Jūshirō Ukitake, Marechiyo Ōmaeda, and Izuru Kira each spring from these lesser noble stocks. Supplementary novels widen the picture further: the Tsunayashiro Clan is named the most powerful of the four families and the true keeper of Soul Society's records, and it is claimed that a fully united set of five noble families would outrank even the Central 46 and the Royal Guard. Fallen and exiled houses also surface, among them the Azashiro, wiped out but for a single survivor, and the Ryōdoji, banished long ago to become the group known as the Dark Ones.

Five Bleach female characters, ranked and settled. Yoruichi sits at number five, the spot nobody expects, and our number one is an Arrancar with a soft heart....

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
