Pipe

This trumpet-like instrument belongs to the working gear issued to the Pipers, one of the eight squads that make up Wing Bind. Also called the Conservation Rangers, the Pipers operate out of Reverse London and answer to the agency's directorate, the Top of Horns. Their role centers on tending to dragons rather than destroying them, and the Pipe travels with them as a recognizable badge of that assignment.

Rangers of this squad go into the field wearing a shepherd's-check patterned mantle, with the Pipe as part of the same uniform. They also carry oddly shaped sidearms known as Witch Kits. The Pipers themselves handle the taming of dragons and the gathering of the resources those creatures yield, and they track down any beasts that are being raised without authorization. The Pipe accompanies them through all of these duties as standard-issue equipment.

The instrument is carried by members of the Pipers division, among them Noel Niihashi and Ninny Spangcole, who serve together as agents of Wing Bind. Their commanding officer is Billy Banx Jr., who was moved into the squad after being demoted from the tactical Sabres.
