Stop that stupid!!

Grinding his prop staff deeper into the trapped spirit, Don Kanonji promises a quick and painless deliverance and launches into a chant the crowd recognizes as his cleansing verse. Rukia realizes with alarm that he is only hollowing out the spirit faster and that the creature may complete its turn on the spot. The bound soul shrieks in agony, and Karin doubles over, clutching her head against the sensation. When Ichigo vaults the rope barrier to intervene, a staffer sics five uniformed guards on him, who wrestle him to the ground as the broadcast frames him as an overexcited fan.

Rukia slips on her separator glove to eject Ichigo from his body, but more guards pile onto her before she can reach him. As the spirit's chain of fate begins snapping in several places at once, the situation looks lost, until Kisuke Urahara steps in and knocks Ichigo's soul free with his cane, leaving the bewildered guards holding a limp body. Urahara claims he only came because his young shopkeepers are devoted fans, then wipes the guards' memories with a Soul Society device and flees with Tessai carrying Ichigo's shell.

Freed at last, Ichigo charges the host and tackles him several feet back, startled that Kanonji can actually see him; the medium mistakes him for a departed fan. The confrontation comes too late. The tormented spirit cracks, bleaches white, and detonates with tremendous force. Rather than rising as a Hollow, however, it simply shatters into nothing, leaving Ichigo baffled by the outcome while Urahara observes silently from a distance, aware that the transformation is far from finished.

The chapter marks Urahara's decisive first intervention on Ichigo's behalf during the Kanonji incident and plants the misdirection of the spirit's apparent destruction. It was adapted into the anime's tenth episode, Casual Soul Realm Assault Trip! Viz rendered the title as Stop That, Stupid!! The installment is part of the fourth volume of the manga.
