FOURTEEN DAYS FOR CONSPIRACY

In the Sixth Division prison, Renji informs Rukia she is being transferred to the Shishinro inside Senzaikyu because her execution now stands less than fourteen days away. Escorted under a veil, she is shown the Sokyoku that will end her life and told the tower exists so she may repent, earning it the name Palace of Penitence. Before departing, Renji hurries back to mention that five Ryoka have entered, one a Shinigami with orange hair and a sword as tall as himself, news that visibly stirs her.

Walking away, Renji reflects that Rukia has not looked so alive in days and chooses not to reveal that Gin intercepted the boy. Aizen then pulls him aside and, once alone, bluntly asks whether Rukia deserves to die. He lists the oddities of her case: an unheard-of death sentence for minor crimes, the rushed disposal of her Gigai, a stay of execution slashed from thirty-five days to twenty-five, and the unprecedented use of the Sokyoku on a low-ranking Shinigami, hinting that someone is manipulating events before an alarm summons the captains.

At the Shiba house, Kukaku beats Ichigo and Ganju apart for brawling on sight and lays down her house rules. Leading the group through corridors lit by the glowing plant Hotarukazura, she has Ganju throw open a door onto the Kakaku Taiho. She then announces her plan: as the Rukongai's premier fireworks expert, she intends to launch the intruders over the wall and into the Seireitei through the sky.

Rukia's execution is set inside fourteen days and she is relocated to Senzaikyu; Aizen plants suspicion in Renji about a conspiracy behind the sentence; Kukaku reveals the Kakaku Taiho and her scheme to fire the Ryoka into the Seireitei.

The chapter closes volume nine and was adapted into episode 23, 14 Days Before Rukia's Execution. It shares its name with the volume and plants the earliest hints of Aizen's larger plot. Viz Media retained the title FOURTEEN DAYS FOR CONSPIRACY.
