See You Under a Firework

Searching frantically for Ganju, Ichigo bellows for him to launch a rocket as a signal, only to stumble into Goteitaishi and three other Eleventh Division men idling over a card game. They abandon their hands to give chase, and Ichigo flees, sheepishly reminded that he is a hunted man himself.

Cornered and bloodied, Ganju rattles Yumichika by noting that Ichigo's shouting means Ikkaku has fallen, a claim the officer refuses to believe of his division's Third Seat. Ganju scatters small explosives and looses Senpen Banka, but Yumichika carves through the blasts with Fuji Kujaku and kicks him toward the rim of an execution pit, convinced his enemy means to collapse the ground and take them both down.

Slashed across the back, Ganju tumbles over the edge and clings on, enduring Yumichika's speech about dying beautifully before answering that he was raised to survive at any cost. He caves in his own footing with Seppa to drag Yumichika down the slope, vaults up off the officer's head, and finishes tearing the ground loose with Renkan Seppa Sen. When Yumichika leaps clear of the sliding earth, Ganju flings a huge firework into his face and drops him. Ichigo spots the burst overhead and scolds Ganju for the delay while standing over his own beaten pursuers. The chapter was adapted in episode 28, Orihime Targeted.
