As Ichigo Kurosaki and Orihime Inoue recoil at his six arms, Nnoitra Gilga arms the last hand with a scythe and pronounces the duel finished. Kenpachi Zaraki instead roars with laughter, delighted that the holes torn through his body have finally put them on equal footing. He invites the Espada to keep going, trading brutal blows that open his shoulder and rake his cheek, even splitting apart a slab of building Nnoitra topples onto him.

Nnoitra descends with all six scythes and presses harder, baffled that Kenpachi keeps swinging while bleeding worse than he is, and a slash across the neck finally makes the captain concede he will die if this continues. Unwilling to fall, he resolves to use kendo, recalling that Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto once forced him to study it after he joined the Gotei 13.

Though he disliked the discipline and its name, Kenpachi kept one truth from it: a sword swung with both hands strikes far harder. When Nnoitra scoffs that this is obvious and charges, the captain grips the base of his hilt with his second hand and unleashes Ryodan, a crushing downward stroke.

The chapter sits in the thirty-fifth volume, HIGHER THAN THE MOON, and was adapted as Episode 202, Fierce Fighting Conclusion! Who's the Strongest?. Its cast is limited to Ichigo, Nnoitra, Orihime, Kenpachi, and Yachiru Kusajishi.
