Hall In Your Inferno

Displeased by the arrival of Kira and Hisagi, Apacci orders Ayon to kill them at once, then boils over when it ignores her. Mila Rose urges her to settle down, since the creature cannot hear them; Apacci is certain the thing must be hiding ears somewhere, yet Sung-Sun admits she has never once seen it respond to a word they say. Apacci grumbles that they should never have summoned something so revolting.

Hisagi tells Kira to leave Ayon to him and tend to Matsumoto and Hinamori. Kira asks if he is being pushed aside, and an annoyed Hisagi tells him to heal the two and then return to help, reminding him of his old Fourth Division days. As Hisagi drags Ayon closer by his chains, Kira raises a Kidō barrier around himself, Matsumoto, and Hinamori and, hoping his skills have not rusted, begins mending Matsumoto. Hisagi channels a Kidō blast down the chain into the beast, dropping it, and realizes Kidō is its weak point. He leaps in for another strike, but Ayon's head twists a full half-circle to face him and knocks him away, then rights itself and simply snaps the chain from its neck. It seizes Hisagi as a vast mouth opens beneath its mask to devour him; Iba tries a surprise attack from behind, only for a hidden eye in its mane to blast him with a Cero. Ayon slams Hisagi against a wall and casts him aside, then rounds on Kira, just as a hole punches through its chest and Yamamoto appears, grumbling at being made to fight.

Part of volume 39, EL VERDUGO, this chapter brings the Captain-Commander into the false Karakura Town brawl against Ayon. Its events were dramatized in episode 225 of the anime.
