Before the assembled Wandenreich, Yhwach calls Uryū Ishida to the stage and proclaims the last surviving Quincy his successor. The hall reels, and Bazz-B stamps his foot to object before Haschwalth throws out an arm to check him. Yhwach dismisses all protest, promising that Uryū's power will speak for itself in the battles ahead, and leaves with the young man.

In a corridor afterward, a seething Bazz-B smashes a bottle and demands someone explain the decision, but Mask De Masculine and BG9 admit they are just as lost. Refusing to accept it, he drops to the floor below and announces he will confront Yhwach directly, only to find Haschwalth blocking his way. Bazz-B needles him, noting that nearly every Sternritter would have accepted Haschwalth as heir, yet Haschwalth voices no complaint, insisting that Yhwach's word is absolute. Calling him a coward, Bazz-B demands the position for himself and grins that he is perfectly calm, even as Haschwalth's hand drifts to his sword.

A Gift Ball suddenly blooms between them. Askin Nakk Le Vaar drily praises Bazz-B for not charging in, claims he only means to keep the peace since they are being watched, and gestures up to PePe Waccabrada chuckling from an alcove. Dispersing the sphere, Askin urges the two to let the matter drop, warning that a quarrel could prove poisonous for a man like Haschwalth, whom he pointedly names their next emperor.

Meanwhile, in the throne room, Uryū kneels and drinks Yhwach's blood from a cup bearing the Wandenreich emblem. The ritual complete, Yhwach promises that Uryū's power will soon awaken and that he will bear the Schrift A, the same letter as Yhwach himself.

Yhwach names Uryū, the last Quincy, as his successor, shocking the Wandenreich. Bazz-B's outrage nearly boils over into a duel with Haschwalth until Askin intervenes and calls Haschwalth the true next emperor. Uryū completes a blood ritual with Yhwach that will grant him the Schrift A.

Part of Volume 61, THE LAST 9DAYS, this chapter opens the internal tensions of the Wandenreich during the Thousand-Year Blood War arc. Its events were adapted into Episode 380, THE LAST 9DAYS. Uryū's shared Schrift A and the rift it sows among the Sternritter become important to the arc's endgame.
