The Gift

Askin Nakk Le Vaar reasons that if Yoruichi's spiritual pressure cycles through forty-eight variations every second, then a single second exposes him to all of them, so his Vollstandig, Hasshein, need only endure one second of her assault. He adds that any further tampering with Reishi is pointless now, since Hasshein adjusts to shifts in an element's properties and keeps him immune as long as the base stays the same. Watching in a cold sweat, Kisuke Urahara is told that no attack can land again, then dared to surprise him anyway.

Deploying Gift Bereich, Askin walls the two of them inside a sealed energy field so the Shinigami cannot flee. Urahara observes that Askin seems driven by something other than pure loyalty, and Askin agrees, admitting he is fascinated by Yhwach's plan to raze the Human World, Soul Society, and Hueco Mundo and forge something entirely new. When he asks whether Urahara shares that curiosity, Urahara slashes at him, is dodged, and replies that he has no wish to see such a world; Mayuri Kurotsuchi might share the vision, yet as true scientists both would rather build their own worlds than watch someone else's.

Amused but unmoved, Askin conjures a Gift Ring around his arm and throws it. The ring vanishes before Urahara, then rematerializes inside his right eye and bursts it, driving him back. Askin explains that Gift Ring is reserved for foes too strong for The Deathdealing, concentrating the poison into one point to annihilate it instantly, and offers Urahara only the prospect of having his organs picked apart one by one. In answer, Urahara activates his Bankai, Kannonbiraki Benihime Aratame.

Askin traps Urahara within Gift Bereich and reveals that Hasshein grants immunity to any Reishi sharing the same base. He confesses his real motive is curiosity about Yhwach's remade world. After Gift Ring destroys Urahara's eye, the cornered captain releases his Bankai, Kannonbiraki Benihime Aratame, for the first time before the Quincies.

Opening Volume 73, this chapter delivers the debut of Urahara's Bankai, a long-teased mystery of the series. Askin's exposition also clarifies the mechanics of his adaptive immunity and the escalating tools of his Schrift, The Deathdealing. The exchange over remaking the world frames the philosophical gap between the Quincy cause and Urahara.
