Nijiro Nanase

Of roughly average height with a muscular teenage build, Nanase is most recognizable by the Blue Lock headband he wears through matches and drills to keep his hair out of his face. At the facility he suits up in the standard black bodysuit striped with blue, plus the tracksuit. His jerseys shift with each stage: the white number 99 during Second Selection, Team A's black 99 in the tryout round, and Paris X Gen's 77 in the Neo Egoist League.

At heart Nanase is honest, sunny, and upright, striking up an easy bond with Yoichi Isagi and Yo Hiori almost the moment they meet in Third Selection. Raised in the countryside, he slips into a Kansai dialect and tosses out regional phrases, like calling himself fluttering when he gets excited. He looks up to those older than him and works hard to support rather than hinder them, a disposition rare among Blue Lock's survivors. That brightness masks a fierce drive, though: he will bend to almost anything to keep advancing, even lowering his head to serve as a post player for Rin Itoshi, all while treating opponents and teammates alike with respect.

Nanase operates as a forward and can also drop into a wingback role, where stamina, crossing, and flank defense come into play. His standout gift is a natural ambidexterity he did not even realize he possessed until the Neo Egoist League; unlike Rensuke Kunigami, who trained himself into using both feet, Nanase's left and right sit at the same level, letting him pass or feed a goal from any angle. He pairs that with sharp off-the-ball movement in the mold of Isagi, sliding into positions that pull defenses apart and reading the flow of play to strike at the right moment.
