Ryosuke Kira

Kira wears his platinum-blond hair over golden-brown eyes, with a small mole sitting just under the outer corner of his right eye. Taller than most at 181 centimeters, he has a lean frame and a face widely regarded as handsome. His designs across the series range from his Matsukaze school kit to the body suit issued for the Side-B selection.

At heart Kira is warm and generous, a committed believer in playing for the collective. That conviction put him at odds with Jinpachi Ego's gospel of selfish ambition, so much so that he once chose backing his teammates at nationals over chasing the crown of world's greatest striker. He held firm, conservative opinions about Japanese football and rejected Ego's argument that the country's failures stemmed from a shortage of egoism, joining Blue Lock largely to prove the man wrong. That fixation on winning the argument rather than the match cost him dearly.

Beneath the good nature runs a streak of wounded pride. Losing the admission exam made him volatile, and he raged at the abrupt end of his career, insisting he was the most talented in the room while pinning his elimination on rivals such as Isagi and Meguru Bachira. His time in the Side-B selection reshaped him into someone colder and more resolute. Aware that Buratsuta's scheme is built to serve its victors, he signs on anyway, recasting himself as an anti-Blue Lock hardliner who views the project as inhumane brainwashing and sets his sights on crushing both the system and Isagi.

Kira captained his school side as its number 10 and was recruited into the Blue Lock project on the same intake as Isagi, entering with the ranking of 289. Failing the dormitory test dropped him into the first batch of twenty-five players expelled, alongside Ryo Nameoka. Though marketed as one of the nation's brightest forwards, his gifts were rated harshly by Ego, who judged his skill unremarkable and named his defeatism the fatal weakness, arguing Kira might have survived the exam had he battled to the final whistle. He resurfaces later as one of the 301 hopefuls Buratsuta gathers to contest the last two openings on the rebuilt Japan U-20 team, driven now by his vow to topple Isagi and everything Blue Lock stands for. In the series' first popularity poll he placed fourteenth.
