Wataru Kuon

Kuon stands tall, his dark brown hair reaching about the length of his chin, and a smile is rarely far from his face. His eyes are a striking red, an uncommon shade across the cast. Around Blue Lock he wears the issued tracksuit, switching to Team Z's number two jersey once matches begin.

Kuon opened the First Selection as Team Z's tactical brain, organizing a ragtag group and drawing up their plans off the back of his experience founding a football club in high school. His effort, though, tracked his self-interest: when he cared he gave everything, but when only his own advance mattered he did the bare minimum needed to gather intel he could exploit. The pleasant front he wore fooled the team for most of a match until his betrayal came to light.

Once Yoichi Isagi exposed him, a colder face emerged, one willing to sell out teammates to climb and trusting nobody but himself. That guardedness traces back to school friends who never took the sport as seriously as he did; after they weighed him down, he swore never to let it happen again, so inside Blue Lock he courted the strongest squads and fed them information on his own side, dismissing Team Z's belief in teamwork as naive. Watching them stand toe to toe with the fearsome Team V, however, reignited his buried love for football, and he threw himself back in to cheer and support them, even knowing they could never fully trust him again.

Kuon plays as a goal poacher, a forward who lurks near the box waiting to pounce on crosses, rebounds, and loose balls and steal a goal from the smallest opening. His standout physical gift is a 68-centimeter vertical leap that turns him into a real threat on headers. Beyond finishing, his strategic mind carried genuine weight, shaping a disjointed Team Z into something functional and earning enough trust through his leadership to steer them.
