Summary

Reading that the changed Bachira will attempt something unpredictable, Isagi breaks off Rin to mark him and deflects the shot away with his foot. Yet the loose ball rolls straight to an unmarked Rin, who slots home the goal that wins the match for Team Red. Given the right to pick, Rin bypasses his teammates' opinions and selects Isagi alone, declaring he will watch him grow into the best at his side, while a bitter Isagi says his goodbyes to Chigiri, Baro, and Nagi.

Pressed on why he lost, Isagi is told simply, luck. Ego expands on the idea, arguing that luck is not mere chance but a hidden element that rewards those who act on desire. On the final play everyone else decelerated expecting a shot, and only Rin, alongside Isagi, kept accelerating, running into a spot where a stray ball could become a goal and then trusting the coincidence. Rin admits the outcome was created by Isagi, not controlled by himself, and that accepting that defeat is Isagi's punishment to carry.

Ego announces the Third Selection: within a day the finalists will face the World Five. The team is broken down for them, Spain's Leonardo Luna, England's goal-hungry Adam Blake, Argentina's free-kick specialist Pablo Cavasoz, Brazil's powerhouse Dada Silva, and France's teenage prodigy Julian Loki. After Bachira reconciles with Isagi over a night of training, the match begins, and a lightning combination between Isagi, Bachira, and Rin lets Rin score the first goal against the world-class opponents.

Notes

Airing March 18, 2023, the episode bridges the Second Selection and Third Selection arcs, adapting chapters 85 through 88 and 90. It retains Judgement and Numbness like a ginger. Because of pacing, the anime skips the manga clash between Igarashi, Kunigami, Mikage, and Shido, delaying Shido's debut. The Additional Time short, The Bad Kind of Chemical Reaction, has Chigiri, Baro, and Nagi realize how many chores Isagi quietly handled for them and vow to make him pay.
