Episode 5: To Be Reborn

The clash with Team Y narrows into a contest of anticipation, each side straining to read the other's hand through their playmakers. Rather than take his own turn up front, Isagi elects to stay back and keep shadowing Niko. Niko explains that his weapons are not speed or muscle but his vision for reading the pitch and his knack for organizing teammates, gifts he trusts even as Isagi tries to shut him down.

With the scores level and barely a minute left, Niko springs Team Y's saved revenge play, a counter they only use when tied and pinned back. Okawa collects deep, but this time the whole side pours forward together instead of attacking alone. When Niko draws Iemon and slips the ball to Okawa, Isagi has already sensed the trap, intercepting at the exact spot that smelled most of a goal. He explains that because they think alike, he knew Niko would pass rather than shoot, which in his eyes proves Niko is not built to be a striker.

Isagi launches the counter through Kunigami and Bachira, then arrives himself to finish for a 2-1 win. He walks toward the weeping Niko in silence, aware he has crushed their dream even as victory feels good. Later, sleepless with excitement, he watches the goal back with Chigiri, who explains that Isagi's rare spatial awareness lets him sense the entire field. Chigiri then confides a right ACL tear from a year earlier and his dread of ending his career, admitting he came to Blue Lock hoping to find a reason to quit, a claim Isagi flatly calls a lie.

Isagi sacrifices his striker rotation to keep marking Niko, then intercepts the one-time-kill counter and scores the winner that eliminates Team Y from Isagi's path. Kunigami identifies Isagi's weapon as the ability to smell a goal, and Chigiri names the underlying gift as spatial awareness Isagi can learn to use on purpose. Chigiri reveals his ACL injury and his hidden wish to give up. Teieri presses Ego for a progress report, prompting him to add spice by re-ranking every player on form: Isagi rises to 265th, the highest in Team Z, and Ego announces that Team Z will face Team W within twenty-four hours.

The episode aired on November 6, 2022 in the First Selection Arc, adapting chapters 12 through 15. It opens with Chaos ga Kiwamaru and closes on WINNER, following Episode 4 and leading into Episode 6. Its Additional Time short, Introducing Blue Lock's Supplies, has the squad labeling their custom toothbrushes: Iemon writes a haiku, Bachira sketches a dolphin, Raichi scrawls the word mine, and they all rib Gagamaru over his messy handwriting.
