Chapter 30: Extreme Frenzy

The First Selection's final showdown rolls on with Team V holding a 3-2 edge over Team Z. In the underdogs' dressing room the mood is buoyant. Asahi Naruhaya, Yudai Imamura, and Gurimu Igarashi ride a wave of hope, and Igarashi marvels that Rensuke Kunigami owns such a long-range strike, a shot that startled even Kunigami himself as he pushed past his own ceiling. Watching his teammates break their boundaries, Isagi resolves to build a scoring method that belongs to him alone, while Jingo Raichi declares the comeback is on. Across the hall, Reo Mikage promises his side the win and orders a tighter defensive shape to smother any Team Z chances.

When play resumes, Kunigami feeds Bachira, now double-marked, and Bachira flicks it on to Gin Gagamaru. Having overrun the play, Gagamaru gambles on an acrobatic scorpion kick that is bound for the far corner until Zantetsu Tsurugi rises to nod it clear, stunning the striker with his sudden defensive work. Isagi pounces on the loose ball roughly twenty-two meters out but freezes, unsure he can finish from range, and a Team V man robs him from behind while Raichi berates him.

Stripped of possession, Isagi digs into his own flaws, his shaky dribbling and modest frame, then decides that self-doubt earns nothing and that his rise has to come from inside rather than borrowed from rivals. Nagi drifts over to needle him, branding him worthless and baffled that a squad of no-hopers refuses to fold. The taunts light a fuse, and Isagi snaps back before slicing straight past Nagi. Reo screams for a counter, but Raichi pins him and vows to devour him. From the sidelines, Anri Teieri and Ego study the clash, with Ego observing that a striker's ego only hardens under punishing pressure and that the truly great ones keep evolving.

Gagamaru's inventive scorpion-kick attempt is denied by an unexpected Zantetsu header, and a hesitant Isagi is dispossessed from distance. Nagi mocks Team Z as players who should have quit the sport, yet his jabs push Isagi to blow past him. Raichi's marking keeps Reo locked out of the attack, and Ego, watching from outside, frames continuous evolution as the mark of a great forward.

Carrying the Japanese title Kyokugen no Nekkyo, this is the thirtieth chapter overall and the eighth in Volume 4, set during the First Selection Arc. It ran in issue 2019-15 on March 13, 2019 in Japan, arrived in English on June 15, 2021, and spans nineteen pages. The material is dramatized in Episode 9, and the chapter falls between Chapter 29 and Chapter 31.
