Chapter 95

Addressing the thirty-five who cleared the previous stage, Ego explains that a further round will whittle them down to the squad of eleven meant to challenge Japan U-20, an opponent grown even more dangerous now that Sae Itoshi has joined its ranks. He then reads out his six highest-rated players in order: Rin Itoshi, Ryusei Shido, Tabito Karasu, Eita Otoya, Kenyu Yukimiya, and Seishiro Nagi.

The remaining twenty-nine, Ego continues, will be slotted in beside pairs drawn from that top six, an audition designed to reveal who deserves a place in the final eleven. Describing how this stage will unfold, he tells the players that survival will hinge on two qualities working at once: the drive to assert themselves and the ability to coexist with others.

Ego confirms the Third Selection format and names his top six strikers. He reveals that Sae Itoshi has strengthened the Japan U-20 side, and defines assertion and coexistence as the keys to passing the tryouts.
