Appearance

She wears the shape of a young woman in a school uniform topped with the black cap of the Devil Hunter Club, her neck-length hair a grayish mountbatten pink and her face dotted with several moles. Like her fellow Horsemen she carries piercing, many-ringed eyes, shown as pink in colored art, and four green earrings adorn her, two small beads on the right and two unusually long, triangle-tipped danglers. Once her cover is blown, a long vertical gash is revealed running the length of her torso, the relic of a failed suicide in which she tore out her own organs and went on existing as a hollow shell.

Personality

Cool, guarded, and sparing with emotion, the Death Devil keeps a composed front and reads others with unsettling accuracy, holding knowledge she should have no way of possessing. She is less openly cruel than her siblings, even tipping off Public Safety about graver threats when pressed, yet she will spend any number of lives to reach her ends: she traps Asa Mitaka and her clubmates to starve inside an aquarium, looses the Falling Devil on the world to weaponize Yoru, and drives crowds to madness through the Fire Devil, all with scarcely a flicker of regret. She schemes as relentlessly as her late sibling Makima once did, telling one person one thing and the next another to steer them into her designs, even when those designs unravel.

A glutton of staggering appetite, she devours inhuman quantities of food, sometimes with her bare hands, and dreads humanity's end partly because it would erase the cuisine she adores. Beneath the title of "Great King of Terror," however, she genuinely treasures human culture: her true aim, as Nayuta understands it, is to avert the apocalypse by taking her own life, a death she means to earn by turning the War Devil and Chainsaw Man into beings fearsome enough to rival her. That goal sets her against nearly everyone she works with, and she shows flashes of real attachment, sparing those who renounce her, demanding that her sisters address her with affection, and ultimately caring for the human friends Yoru takes hostage.

Abilities

As the strongest devil in existence and the most feared name of all, the Death Devil wields immense power even before fully awakening. She can sway the strength of other devils and snuff out a life instantly, yet she seldom fights in person, preferring to borrow the abilities of devils that serve her by choice or by force. Among the Primal Fears, who are already deathless and felt across the world, her arrival is reckoned equal to the apocalypse itself, fated to open an Age of Devils that ends mankind. Her own immortality is absolute: she states outright that she cannot die even if she wished to, a truth proven when gutting herself failed to end her.

She can induce death at will, raise the dead, and heal others into greater size and strength, as she does for Yuko. Her signature method is enslavement, claiming those she personally kills, often by eating them alive, a power that grips even fellow Primal Fears: the Falling Devil bows to her, the Fire Devil answers her call, and the Guillotine Devil, Famine Devil, Fake Chainsaw Man, Legs Devil, and Teeth Devil all fall under her hand, though her thralls obey less perfectly than Makima's once did. She teleports at a whim, slipping in and out of locked rooms, and can call down a swarm of ravenous crows to close out a meal. Operating for much of the saga as the Famine Devil, she masked the real nature of this control, claiming only to turn the "hungry" into her pawns.
