Abilities

Tanabe owes his combat value to a bargain struck with the Mold Devil, sealed for a price the manga leaves blank. To use it he bites down on his hand to draw blood, then points at whoever he wants dead, prompting mold to bloom inside that target's organs and trigger internal bleeding. The infestation only takes hold in living tissue, and it resists healing: a regenerating foe stays infected unless the contaminated flesh is cut away entirely. He brings this to bear during the Bomb Girl arc, when Reze storms the Anti-Devil 2nd Division's training grounds. Tanabe and Kato move first, seeding mold through her heart and gut, but Reze tears off her own head and hurls it inside to regrow her body. Her headless form charges and detonates, and the blast ends him.
