Summary

Once she fixes a head onto herself, the Falling Devil realizes she is bare and pulls on a chef's coat. She gives her name and declares that tonight, at the behest of Hell's inhabitants, she will cook. Nearby, Yoru struggles to retreat while Asa, locked inside her own mind, will not respond.

Asa is reliving a wound from the orphanage. The caretaker there talked her into surrendering Crambon, the cat she had once saved at the cost of her mother's life, claiming another child's allergy and urging Asa to mix with the others. The woman vowed to pass the animal to a friend, and Asa consented, only to discover later that Crambon had been drowned in a river. The caretaker justified it by saying Asa had no right to keep family when the other orphans had none.

Shaken awake by the memory, Asa screams, which strips Yoru of control. She clutches a railing to find herself dangling upside down as the Falling Devil's power flings countless people skyward, some vanishing through floating doors that seem to open onto Hell and its appetites. Unable to take the body back, Yoru urges Asa not to give in to fear.
