Andy

Andy is tall and lean, a frame so close to Spike's that the resemblance becomes a running gag; the two differ mainly in coloring, with Andy sporting fluffy, grown-out blonde hair and green eyes. He commits fully to his cowboy act, and his getup is elaborate: a long white coat paired with matching chaps, a grey double-breasted shirt, denim jeans, grey gloves on his hands, and a wide red ascot at the neck, all crowned by an oversized traditional cowboy hat.

He is seldom apart from his horse and companion, Onyx, whom he rides everywhere, even charging into buildings and up elevators. After his clash with Spike, Andy drops the cowboy identity altogether and remakes himself after the swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, closing out his story in a samurai kimono astride the same horse, now renamed Jiroumaru.

Andy is rich, self-absorbed, stubborn, and hopelessly inept, coasting on family money to live out whatever fantasy role catches his eye. His fighting instincts flatter his ego more than his ability: he prefers to march straight up to a target and demand surrender at gunpoint, yet he can empty both revolvers without landing a hit, as he does during the rooftop duel at City Hall.

His recklessness stretches to a grenade launcher he fires with no regard for the buildings around him, a habit that helps explain his long list of property-destruction charges. He does show enough agility and rough hand-to-hand skill, favoring a boxing stance and heavy punches, to hold his own against Spike for a while, though his successes owe more to blind luck and Spike's frustration than any genuine talent. Late in his story he swaps the gunslinger act for a samurai's code and a fresh look to match.

Born into the affluent Oniyate family, Andy uses that wealth to indulge whichever persona appeals to him, spending a long stretch as a cowboy. He briefly belonged to the Young Men's Cowboy Association before being thrown out for sheer ineptitude, his blundering leaving behind hundreds of cases of ruined property and a string of injuries.

He crosses paths with Spike while both are trying to catch the Teddy Bomber, who has been blowing up structures on Mars. Crashing through a window on horseback, Andy declares he has cracked the bomber's pattern and accuses Spike himself, fooled by the real culprit's disguise; the interruption lets the Teddy Bomber set off his remaining charges and slip away. Andy repeats the blunder at a costume party, again riding in and accusing first Jet and then Spike, handing the bomber another escape before finally chasing him off. When Spike joins the pursuit in the Swordfish, Andy forgets the bomber entirely and blasts away at Spike, wrecking everything nearby in the process.

He resurfaces later in his samurai guise during Halloween festivities in Alba City. The character is built as a deliberate foil to Spike, matched in age and nearly in height, with Jet, Faye, and even the Teddy Bomber all remarking on how alike the two troublemakers are. His white-clad, instinct-driven persona also echoes Rex O'Herlihan of the Western comedy Rustlers' Rhapsody.
