The company launched the Hyperspace Gate Project to engineer the gate network and recruited a roster of scientists to make it real, Hex among them. When it pushed to erect the very first gate in 2021, one of its own researchers objected that the technology remained unproven and demanded further trials. The leadership overruled him and dismissed him instead. Decades later, in 2071, its top executive learned that the ousted scientist had rigged the gate toll booths and handed hackers the means to siphon funds. Rather than confess the buried history, the corporation floated a bounty on the thieves in hopes an outsider would quietly resolve the matter.

Hex counts as the firm's most consequential hire, a brilliant engineer whose warnings about the gates went unheeded and whose later sabotage came back to haunt the company. The head executive who managed the 2071 cover-up and his aide were never given proper names on screen, appearing in the credits only as anonymous figures.
