Mai's Mother

She carried herself with polish, favoring a dark sweater layered beneath a coat. Lipstick and an earring on her right side rounded out the refined look, while her shoulder-length blonde hair was parted so the bangs swept across the left of her forehead.

Her defining trait was the depth of her devotion to her daughter. She put Mai's happiness first, going so far as to drive out and gather Mai's friend Rin purely so the girls could chase their audition together.

On audition day she phoned Rin to relay that Mai had frozen up and could not perform without her, and she offered to bring Rin along to compete. Rin, tied to caring for family at home, first meant to refuse, but her grandmother urged her to go and live without regret. The mother accepted that and hung up, then prepared to leave. Mai suddenly cried out that she wanted to come too. Her mother gently declined at first, telling her to stay with her friends and to step forward without her if her name was called. When Mai broke down over the cruel words she had thrown at Rin and her own ignorance of Rin's hardships, her mother relented and let her come along to pick Rin up. Minutes after leaving the venue, the two were caught in a car accident that claimed both their lives.
