Clapp

Heavily built and powerful, Clapp shared the same imposing frame as his son Kuma. A square, stubbled jaw, a broad rounded nose, and dark squared brows defined his face, framed by short wavy black hair. Slavery left lasting marks on him: he lost his left eye, leaving a stitched scar down the upper part of his face, with further stitched wounds on his left forearm and upper right arm. Like every slave of the World Nobles, the Hoof of the Soaring Dragon was branded onto him to label him beneath human.

Family meant everything to him. He cherished his wife and child, and even after captivity and the grief of losing his wife, he never stopped watching over Kuma. As a Buccaneer he held faith in Nika, the liberator figure woven through his people's folklore, and he enjoyed passing those legends down to his son.

His Buccaneer blood carried the lineage of giants, granting him a hardy build and considerable strength that let him endure brutal mistreatment as a slave. Roughly forty-seven years ago he and his wife ran a church in the Sorbet Kingdom and welcomed their son Kuma. The World Government, watching the island for Buccaneers, learned of them through the hospital that handled the birth. Despite Clapp pleading for mercy, the whole family was enslaved when Kuma was four and shipped to Mary Geoise, with Clapp bearing the worst of the cruelty. After his wife died, he broke the news to his son in tears and kept the boy's spirits up by recounting tales of the warrior Nika. Mid-story, an irritated World Noble shot him, and he died before Kuma's eyes. The way he suffered for his race later shaped Kuma's wish to spare those he loved, such as Ginny, from similar pain.
