Personality

Hatori serves as Yotsuba's vice president of marketing, a position he leverages as the illegitimate son of the firm's president. Death Note 13: How to Read paints him as something of a lightweight who buckles under the strain of the group's deadly meetings. A married father and a literature graduate of Futatsubashi University, he counts ceramics among his interests and harbors a noted dislike of vegetables.

History

Hatori sits in on the clandestine Yotsuba gatherings, the so-called Meetings of Death, where the executives decide whom Kira will eliminate. When he carelessly admits he would like to walk away from the company, the others bristle, and although he hastily takes the words back, Kyosuke Higuchi, the Yotsuba Kira, kills him regardless. The Task Force, watching the survivors coldly discuss his death, reacts with disgust, Matsuda especially, while a few members such as Shimura and Takahashi appear genuinely shaken. The 2015 television drama follows a different path: there Hatori speaks up without consequence and lives through the series alongside the other seven.
