History

At first Ryuga exists only as a televised face, in a program Sayu Yagami follows so devotedly that she objects when Light moves to switch it off. He matters once L picks his name as a pseudonym: deciding to step into the open before Light at the welcome ceremony for To-Oh University, L hides his identity behind Ryuga's name. The choice doubles as a snare, since testing the false name in the notebook would likely push Light to envision the real idol and kill him, exposing himself as Kira. Ryuga appears in person only briefly, when Misa Amane is cast opposite him in a film and, faithful to Light, refuses the scripted kiss to the director's irritation. He is last seen at the NHN Pop Music Festival, where Kiyomi Takada introduces him alongside the ensemble of his coming series Ryouma Sakamoto, with Ryuga slated to star as Ryouma opposite Ami Hamazaki as his on-screen love interest.
