Personality

As the vice president running Yotsuba's VT Enterprises arm, Ooi is the senior figure of the conspiracy and the man who, on the surface at least, directs its meetings, reaching out to each member one by one. He read law at Wasegi University and grew up the son of a Defense Ministry official, a background that suits his fondness for firearms. The official guide paints him as a rugged sort who pays little mind to fine detail, partial to model guns and averse to banding together in groups.

History

Ooi presides over the Yotsuba sessions as the executives lean on their Kira to wipe out business rivals. About five months after L's death, Light writes the surviving conspirators' names into the notebook, and Ooi suffers a fatal heart attack at his own desk, slumping before he can even rise, while Namikawa and Shimura collapse mid-handshake elsewhere. The 2015 television drama keeps him in much the same seat, chairing the meetings and tipping off Higuchi about L's staged Sakura TV broadcast, though there he and the rest of the group live to the end.
