The character's design openly mirrors the sitting American leader of the period, Donald Trump, lifting his features for the fictional head of state.

His conduct paints a leader who prizes self-preservation and public image above grand promises. He campaigns for the auction swearing he would lock the power away from anyone who might misuse it, yet the moment claiming it endangers his own life he backs out. Rather than admit the retreat, he spins a lie meant to burnish his standing, a calculation Ryuk openly admires as shrewd.

When an anonymous Kira, later tagged a-Kira by the new L, offers Kira's power to the highest bidder, the president joins a field of world leaders chasing it. The price climbs until only he and China's leader remain, and he seals the win at a staggering one quadrillion yen. Ryuk then comes to deliver the notebook, but first warns of a fresh decree from the Shinigami King: whoever sells a notebook and whoever buys it are both fated to die. The shinigami offers to leave the book behind should the president perish, letting his vice president inherit it. Unwilling to trade his life, the president refuses the notebook outright. He instead tells the world he holds it and will never use it, betting the claim will lift his image, after which Ryuk departs with the Death Note still in hand.
